At OCUSD, we want to teach our students and families the importance of empathy and understanding the difference between peer conflict and bullying. Conflict is a natural part of life that can cause change and growth with a person. Conflict is not bullying. Bullying occurs repeatedly by the same person, and the intended outcome is to exert power and hurt the other student either physically or mentally. Attached is an infographic that shows the difference between the two as well as strategies to use if your child is found in a situation where they feel they are being bullied. Please know that at OCUSD, we take bullying seriously, and when we confirm that it has occurred, students receive discipline. We cannot share with families/third parties other students’ discipline. If there is a problem, please reach out to your child’s teacher or principal.
