Oregon High School has been made aware of an increase in the use of e-cigarettes/particularly the brand, Juul. We are receiving information that students are using these devices in the hallways and in the bathrooms in the high school. Staff at OHS is working hard to address any and all reports to keep our students safe in the building. We want to take an opportunity to provide some parent education on this topic and provide a reminder of the school policy regarding e-cigarettes or other nicotine products.
The Juul is a small device that is filled with usually flavored nicotine (photo attached). These products are illegal for students to have or use under the age of 18, and they are illegal regardless of age on school property. The product is small, can be easily hidden, and looks similar to a USB Drive. We believe that students are using and sharing them in our school. If we receive a report that a student may have used this or a similar product, a search of the student’s bag will be conducted and parents will be contacted. If any type of illegal devise or product is found, the Oregon Police Department will be contacted, and the student will face consequences per the student handbook.
Here is some additional information to help education you on this topic:
We hope providing families with this information can help keep our students safe both in and out of our building. We encourage you to have a conversation with your child about this topic. If you have any quesitons, please do not hesitate to reach out to Dr. Heidi Deininger, OHS Principal, or Shannon Cremeens, OHS Dean of Studnets.
